Community Service Plan
Connecting students to their community gives them real-world experiences and helps maximize available resources. Young people develop a sense of civic duty when they see firsthand what their community has to offer and what they have to offer to their community.
ACT 237 of 2023 , LEARNS Act Community Service
Division of Elementary & Secondary Education on ACT 237
Begins with the class of 2027:
-
Graduation REQUIREMENT
-
Students must obtain 75 hours of Community Service to graduate.
-
-
Community Service Hours:
-
Hours can be completed through various programs or activities (in or out of state).
-
Students will reflect on their community service activities and log this information in the Searcy Community Service Tracking Form. The Form link will be sent to parents and students.
-
-
The school board can approve waivers based on extenuating circumstances.
Searcy Public Schools will NOT publish an approved list of community service opportunities.
-
Each family will determine the appropriate community service projects for their student. If a parent or guardian approves, it will be approved by the school. The list is not meant to be exhaustive, but only to provide examples:
-
Searcy Public Schools Family Resource Center, Animal Shelter, Church, Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, etc.
-
-
Students may earn more than the “suggested” hours in one school year. For example, it is suggested that 9th-grade students earn 15 hours, but they may earn more than the “suggested” hours. Once a student completes all 75 hours, he/she will NOT be required to complete any additional hours.
